Overview:Remember our Overarching Question:
Why does the dystopian narrative resonate so well with your generation? |
Suggested Items:Here is the “pre-approved” list you can choose from; if you’d like to read/watch something not listed below, please check with me first so I can approve it. Each title is linked to some sort of review to give you context - Wikipedia for the books, IMDB for the films - read at your own risk, of course...spoilers abound.

In order to find out the answer to this BIG question, we will need to examine a variety of the dystopias that are available to your generation. We will study the two classics in class - Brave New World and 1984 - and hope that they will set the framework for developing an answer. To fill in the missing information, though, you will need to “consume” additional material outside of class on your own. You will do this by reading novels or by watching films (see the suggested list to the right).
We will have checkpoints throughout each quarter in the form of Socratic seminars and you will have a summative written assignment at the end of the course. It is my hope that you find items that are high interest and that you can discuss in class. Directions:
All due dates will be posted on the class calendar, and all documents will be distributed through Classroom and will be linked on the Website. |
